In 1920, America allowed women’s constitutional right to vote. Now, a century later, girls and women still face barriers to gender equality. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the well-known magazine The Economist has updated the “glass-ceiling” index, which ranks 29 countries in the top ten indicators of women’s equality in the workplace: educational attainment, labor force participation, salary, childcare costs, maternity leave entitlements, business school applications and representation in senior management positions (management position, board of companies or parliament).
